Milford ISD and Dual Credit Courses

Milford ISD actively pursues partnering relationships with Texas institutions of higher learning (IHEs) to provide dual credit for its high school students. Dual credit enrolls high school students in college courses, allowing them to earn credit for both.  With some exceptions, these courses are internet-based and do not require the student to travel to the IHE campus to participate.

Students will receive academic support and guidance from both the Milford ISD Academic Adviser and the IHE regarding dual credit eligibility, course selection, the impact on the student’s high school graduation plan, and transferability to other institutes of higher learning.

For students participating in this program, Milford ISD will pay tuition, books, and certain other required fees. For the first semester in this program students will be allowed to take one dual credit course and, upon demonstrating success, students will be provided with up to two dual credit courses each semester.  Funding for this program is dependent upon continued state financial support.

Dual credit program goals include:

  • informing all students and parents of the benefits and costs of dual credit;
  • assisting high school students in the successful transition to and the acceleration through post secondary education;
  • providing academic and college readiness advising to increase college course completion; and
  • students’ completing college courses of sufficient rigor to ensure student success in subsequent courses.

MISD currently partners with Navarro College to provide students with the opportunity to earn dual credit.
